All's Right With the World

From my understanding and in my personal views, two shows have revolutionized the genre of serious adult animation, (or "anime" for all you Narutards).

Cowboy Bebop, which ended the HUGE POINTED NOSE THREE HUNDRED POUND BREASTS, "the work which will become a genre in itself"

And Evangelion, which ended the need for Gundams. No more huge blocky cheesy each one looks the same as each other show robots.

However, while both were financial successes, anyone who's watched all of Eva knows that "WTF?" feeling that starts to creep up on you at about episode 15...where you start to HOPE TO GOD something HORRIBLE in the world isn't happening.

1) Eva tried unsuccessfully to blend Robot action with a supernatural religiously influenced edge. It can be done, but they didn't do it right. close but not quite. Eva ripped itself into two storylines that made little sense, with no conclusion. It was ahead of it's time, and they didn't know how to convey this kind of story or world.
2) The creator was an asshole.
3) He was a genius, but an asshole.
4) He went crazy.
5) They spent ALL OF THEIR BUDGET BY EPISODE 4.

So flash forward 12 years later. Eva has made INCREDIBLE SUMS of money. From DVDs to art to posters to books to porn. EVERYTHING. And ach new fan is STILL like...WTF? Eva's "movie", "End of Eva" ended with a HUGE EPIC event. No one knows why though. or what really happened. Or anything. So....ok....everyone....something? eh...? One of the greatest fight scenes of all time is belittled by a giant clusterfuck; a big punch in the face.

So Rebuild of Eva is here. Well not really, since it's never going to see a US release since all we want is ninja boys and generic samurai. BUT. find it. get it. watch it.

Really, No words can describe how...awesome...fantastically amazing, this movie is. You know, wanted to make a GIF of Ramiel from the Rebuild to post here, next to his old "version". You don't KNOW what it's like. I can't do it justice with a gif without sound or anything in HD. Dear god. Screams of dimension-warping geometric pain.

I thought I'd be writing for hours about this, but all I can say in my head "Holy Shit". This Quadrilogy looks to right all the wrongs of the original series, frame for frame. Or ReWrite all the wrongs at least. Just watch it. I'm sure you'll get much more out of it if you've scrutinized the VHS tapes of the original over and over, carefully memorizing each battle movement so you can act it out later with your Diecast Chogokins and Revoltechs.

I'd almost say if you HAVEN'T seen the original you should watch that first, so you can experience the horribly depressing kick in the nuts that the older generation has gone through, but if you can't afford/find it, watch the Rebuild.

You can't...no, you WON'T appreciate 01's disturbing vocals if you've never seen it without them. And you can't appreciate the joy of a simple escalator scene that is FINALLY beautiful. Eva could not have been done in 1995. They tried, but they're only finally getting it right 12 years later.

I wasn't a very big fan of Evangalion.
